The Mashomack Preserve Conservation and Stewardship Manager plans, directs, and implements stewardship programs, preserve management and maintenance for Mashomack and sites where the Conservancy has legal interests (conservation easements, restricted transfers, etc.) on Shelter Island, NY. As a member of the NY Division Land Assets Team and Long Island Conservation Lands Team, the Manager develops and implements conservation strategies and executes a variety of approaches to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. In collaboration with the fundraising staff, the Manager participates in designing and leading field experiences and donor trips and promoting and enhancing opportunities for supporters to connect with the natural environment. The Preserve Manager will work with stewardship, marketing/communication, and other conservation staff to elevate and enhance the visitor experience, as well as maximize the conservation impacts at Mashomack and other Conservancy preserves. The Manager will oversee the onsite Visitor Center, including development of exhibits and curriculum in coordination with Education staff. The Preserve Manager works with operations and stewardship staff to plan and implement the maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to the facilities at Mashomack Preserve. The Preserve Manager supervises Land Stewards, Facilities and Education and Visitor Center Team Members.
 
This position will be located at Shelter Island, New York. Optional residency in housing provided by the Conservancy on preserve property.
 
The preferred candidate will be comfortable with both independent and team-based work, as well as duties that span from day to day coordination to long term project implementation. We are looking for smart, entrepreneurial, and emotionally-intelligent go-getters who can manage and foster solid relationships externally and internally for lasting success. We appreciate collaborative approaches and encourage innovative ideas and recommendations.  
 
The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes: 
·            BA/BS, law or business degree and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
·            Experience negotiating complex agreements. 
·            Donor engagement and cultivation experience.
·            Supervisory experience.
·            Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
·            Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers, ESRI products (ArcGIS, Collector, Survey123, etc.).
·            Experience with principles of land management.
·            Valid driver’s license.
